A Cool Coastal Bedroom Will Bring The Seaside To Your Home

The beach is a favorite vacation spot for almost any who has ever been asked where they enjoy spending their off time the most. There is however, a way to bring a little piece of the shore into your home to enjoy on a daily basis. A beach theme bedroom allows the homeowner to revisit those quieter, more relaxing times each night when they go to bed.

Many of the materials required to complete this redecorating project may be found online. There are an abundance of Web sites that contain ideas and provide tips and tutorials on creating a beach theme within the bedroom. The same sites usually sell the materials used in the tutorials, so the Internet is basically a one-stop shop for all things needed.

When redecorating the bedroom, begin by making the floor of the room a tan color. This may mean re-staining or laying down hardwood floors, or laying a tan carpet. Using tan will give the floor the appearance of sand. The walls should be painted a light blue or blue-green in order to appear like the sky or ocean. Those who are more artistically inclined may want to create a mural on the wall reflecting sand dunes, beach grass, and birds. Others may prefer to stencil shells on the walls or purchase a wall border to achieve the desired beach cottage decor effect.

The accent pieces round the room such as the bedding set and curtains should be kept to a tan or khaki color in keeping with the theme. There are many different styles of bedding that fit this description and all are available on the Internet to compare and choose from. Any throw pillows or rugs should also continue along the same lines as the bedding and curtains to complete the continuity of the room.

In continuing with the accent portion of decorating, the wall hangings and other small pieces will be necessary to round out the room. There are a few schools of thought regarding this but for the most part, it should be kept down so as not to make the room too busy. A few strategically placed pictures or paintings of beach or docksides scenes can do wonders when decorating a room in this style.

For added accent to the walls, try stenciling a beach scene onto one area, or go with vinyl adhesive words that correspond with the beach theme. The key is to keep the colors and the designs coherent.

The bedroom walls, decorations, and furniture should tie together the room. Once those are completed, accent decorations may be added to small tables and furniture within the room. Fill the bottom of a hurricane glass with sand and shells and place a candle in it. Some stores sell accent lamps with clear bowls that can be filled with shells. The options are only limited by one's creativity.

It does not take a designer's eye and price tag to create a beach theme bedroom. Most of the items can be purchased online and the room can be redecorated in a snap. Once finished, your new coastal home decorating theme will provide its incumbent with a relaxing retreat every day of the year without having to travel away from home.
