Coastal wine glasses are not your average wine drinking glass. They bring various elements of the coast straight to your glass by changes in shape, color or physical design. The main ingredient in the glasses is often crystal. Crystal affects the look and thickness of the glass and can easily change perception on taste. The thicker and longer the glass the more the wine can breathe and be swirled for aroma.

A coastal glass can be used as a conversation piece while entertaining guests, or while relaxing and having dinner. The glass is used to protect and add flavoring to the beverage, but can also add a personal touch to the moment and create memories. Glass shape and design specificity are often not required for a regular dinner by the fire or in your dining room.

Wine Glass Basics

Most glasses can hold anywhere between eighth and twelve ounces and can vary in shape and design. The glass consists of a bowl, stem and foot. On a coastal wine glass the design can be on any of the three areas. The shape and stem length of the glass is often based on personal perception, but should also be chosen based on the flavor or type of the beverage.

The stem length varies according to flavor. For example, a longer stem is used for colder beverages whereas a shorter stem may be prepared for dessert wines. Using a stem keeps the beverage cool and fingerprints off the bowl of the glass, but most of all it portrays the perception of a connoisseur.

Design Options For Different Occasions

A coastal glass stands out above the rest because it often contains a design somewhere on the glass and can easily be accented by beach themed placemats and other simple tabletop decor. The design is usually placed on the stem or foot of the glass and portrays a reminder of the coast like a sea creature, sand or water. In rare occasions the design may even be on the bowl area of the glass but should not distract from the drink.

When choosing a glass it is best to keep it simple. Choosing a plain clear glass over a colored glass is preferred for the sophistication value. Also, size, shape and thickness also affect the flavor of the beverage and it is best to choose accordingly. A longer stem is preferred for drinks that need to remain cold or dry wines.

Adding A Personal Touch

Hand washing is the preferred method of cleaning as it will protect the design from being damaged. A dishwasher may cause severe and undesirable damage like fading the design. The design can be anywhere on the glass and created professionally or as an arts and crafts project during a social visit. It adds the perfect personalized touch if entertaining guests.

Coastal wine glasses add the perfect personal touch for entertaining guests, wine tasting or a simple dinner at home. It stands as a reminder of the coast in a fun and creative way and stands apart among other glasses. So as not distract from the taste or appeal of the wine it should be used on stemware pieces versus stemless glasses. They are perfect for hosting guests or as a personalized present for a special person or for the coastal lover. Addition coastal tabletop decor should be considered to add a more coastal look and feel as well as to complete the overall decor that you are wanting to create.
