Use Of Irrigation Systems For Agronomic Practices
58
Irrigation systems are adopted to provide an artificial supply of water to soil for propagation. Its mainly used to facilitate the growth of agriculture crops, vegetation, and landscaping and plant nursery. This process is used when natural rainfall is inadequate to fulfill the water demand. Uses of artificial water supply for agronomic practices have resulted in lots of new developments. The main principle of this technique is to improve the production with 100 percent effectiveness.
There are a lot of different techniques being used for this. Selection of any particular type depends upon a number of factors like nature of crop, season, initial cost, water demand frequency and duration. This system is designed to maximize the efficiency while minimizing labour cost. This technology is modified into following types:
Irrigation Systems
Surface Method
With this technique, water flows over the land by using gravity force. This mode is sub divided into furrows, basin, border and uncontrolled types. Furrows and uncontrolled types are being used for the production of crops like rice. Basin method is a demand of fruit gardens like mango, orange, and apple trees. This is also called flood method because of its nature of work. It is the oldest, most cost-effective and most powerful method. Seventy percent of people use this style.
Drip Method
This structure is also called trickle method. It is designed so as to deliver water drop by drop at or near the root zone of plant. This is a very efficient method and used for the supply of fertilizer to the crops. Deep propagation is one of the advanced techniques of this category.
Localized
This type is one of the simplest forms of irrigation systems. In this method, water is supplied with the help of small pipes and pressure of water becomes low. It is mostly used when there is a need to supply water to individual plants. This method is mostly used for domestic gardening.
Sprinklers
With a sprinkler system, water is piped up through one or more central locations. This procedure looks more like a mini rain fall. This category of systems is also used to suppress the dust and for land preparation.
Sub-Irrigation Method
Water table levels vary with the geological condition of the land. In some areas, the water table is too low and plants are unable to get the adequate water from the soil. This type of land is generally considered desert. In order to make this land cultivated, permanent irrigation systems are required to be installed. In this way, water is specifically provided to the root zone of plants. It is relatively expensive as compared to other methods.
