Tips For Decorating A Kid's Room With Surf Decor

If your kid is sick of his or her room looking like everyone else's with the same old cartoon characters or superheroes, then it is time for a whole new look. Add some fun to their life by turning their room into something their friends will envy with beach and surf decor.

When you think of the beach you think of surfing, so what is more natural than a few real surfboards to use in the transformation? Surf shops and flea markets usually have some used ones lying around at a cheap cost to you. Turn one into a wall shelf with a few brackets installed in the wall. Take another and turn it into a tabletop for a desk. If you have a surfer kid, this is a perfect opportunity to hang their own on the wall off season.

Turn the walls into their own ocean, complete with a few crashing waves, with a bit of blue and white paint. After painting the walls an ocean blue, sweeping the brush up the wall with white paint will give you the wave effect. Using rag painting will give you some smaller waves and if you are not comfortable with large strokes, then this may be the best option for you. When you choose curtains, keep them light and airy, white with straight lines would complement the walls nicely.

Beach towels are not only the perfect addition to hang on the wall or drape somewhere, but you can use one to upholster a chair in the room. No beach theme is complete without at least one beach towel in the mix.

Look for some beach signs to hang on the walls, maybe even the door. Online or in the local surf shops you'll be able to find a lot of vintage beach signs if your child prefers those to the newer styles today. If your kid loves posters, a poster or two of a surfing scene or the beach will dress up the walls too.

Looking at some online sites you'll find a lot of different kinds of novelty items that would fit right into the surf theme. Little surfboard wall hooks for coats and hats, surfboard printed light switch plates, even wall clocks in the shape of a surfboard will add a fun touch to the room. Let your child take a look at what they think will look cool and pick out a few pieces of their own.

And nothing pulls a room completely together like the right bedding. Today, bedding is all about design and you'll find a variety of different choices when it comes to surfing and the beach. There will be flashy colorful ocean scenes to subtle and calming beach scenes to choose from.

Kids love summer and summer vacation, and when you think of summer decorating you think of the beach. Even if your kid isn't a surfer you can still transform their ordinary room into something spectacular with the right pieces of surf decor that will make them feel like they are at the beach every day.

Awesome! The best item I ever saw for beaches was a partial wooden boat for a basement bar - the wood was gorgeous just as you have on that wooden surf board clock.
