Lodge Bedding

Today's choices of bedding themes allows us to change room decor as easily as buying new sheets. The room can be transformed into whatever we like. One very popular choice is lodge bedding. This look is suitable for outdoor lovers who enjoy hunting, fishing, hiking and boating. It provides a homespun look reminiscent of of mountain hideaways in Washington or New York state.

The outdoor theme provides an outdoorsy coziness that reminds us of the log cabins families would go to for their holidays in the summer. Nature's themes of moose, deer and black bears would be seen permanently imprinted into the wallpaper. The bedspread would be a simple lumberjack plaid in red or green. Additional natural hues of moss green, fall browns and sky blues brought in that reassuring outdoor motif.

As soon as manufacturers started printing images on sheets, the choices in bedding motifs multiplied. Animals can be found on sheets, pillow cases, shams, bed spreads and comforters. More wildlife can be added to a room than ever before. It is easy to add too many so that the room will feel too busy so a word of caution to keep it simple.

Experienced interior decorators warn others that less is more. Once the theme is known then it must be decided what will be built around it. For hunters perhaps a moose, bear or dear. Motif would be suitable. Layers of warm browns or greens would work well with the animals.

The animal of choice can be found on the pillows or bed skirt. The rest of the bedding should be left free of animals. Two or three shades of color can be incorporated into the animal-free items. The animals can also be predominant on the comforter and the pillows and sheets left plain or in a lumberjack plaid.

Accessorizing can be done with table lamps, country style furniture and posters. A simple hickory rocking chair could be added to the room. Pine and log furniture would also look suitable such as a pine headboard. The decorator is only limited by their imagination.

Homemade quilts provide an additional tailor made touch to the lodge decor look. Quilts are still being made by hand and become heirloom pieces as they age. They are very colorful and busy looking so in contrast the bedding should be toned down with solid colors. If animal prints are to be used, they should also be toned down.

Flannel sheets will provide warmth and coziness in the winter. The heat that the body creates will be kept insulated by flannel. Flannel pajamas have the same effect.

Lodge bedding has a timeless look to it. Both boys and girls, men and women can have this in their bedrooms. Nature lovers will enjoy having images of wild north American animals to admire and remind them that they can be viewed in their natural habitat. The calming colors of nature will provide a sense of well being and whet the appetite to go outdoors fishing or hunting.
