Nautical Bathroom Decor For Modern Beach Scenes
67
The words nautical bathroom decor probably conjure up a ships wheel or a lighthouse and some boats on a curtain but in today's modern times, these images are not what the scenes are made of. Many people like their restroom to be a beach or seascape motif because that is where the water is and they want to be reminded of a time in which they spent a vacation or some time at the ocean. Today's modern sea and ocean decorations are filled with colors, palm trees, seashells, sea gulls, sandy beaches and matching toilet seats, towels and cup holders.
The shower curtain is what the majority of people see first when they enter into a restroom and this might be where someone who wants to redecorate their room should begin. Light colors in beige or tan would be good for a neutral room for a man or both genders and then work in some light yellows and browns. The shower curtain could have a tranquil beach scene or a statuesque seagull with some seashells surrounding it. Bath towels in matching yellow or browns would complete the look.
Whimsical, hand-drawn fish, not the somewhat ugly trout, are popular on almost everything in a powder room. They look nice jumping around on a cream colored shower curtain and floating along a picture behind the toilet. A novelty item or something for a child room would be a toilet seat and lid that is made to look exactly like a fish tank with fish and foliage inside but is not real.
Seashells are a good choice for a nautical bathroom with a seaside or beach theme now. The seashells could be placed here and there and not over done or they could go everywhere as accent pieces to the sandy colors. Some company makes hooks for the shower curtain in the shape of seashells which is pretty cute and the show curtain could be a simple ocean scene or one giant seashell. If a family travels to the beach, they could collect several shells and scatter them around a shelf or the back of the toilet as a reminder of their trip.
Something that is almost as popular as seashells is palm trees which are considered part of abeach scene. Larger palm trees could be holding towels or robes and smaller ones could sit on the counter and hold toothbrushes. The palm trees on a shower curtain could be accented with green beads near the leaves to give the trees a little something extra, depending on if the trees are real or more cartoonish.
A bathmat is another place in which an individual could make a statement about the ocean and it, too, is typically one of the first things that comes into focus when someone walks into a restroom. Bathmats could be cut into the shape of a palm tree, seashell or seagull in order to match the rest of the room and the color possibilities are endless.
Sea foam greens, sandy tan and browns, sunny yellows and light yellows and blues and white to represent the white caps on the blue waters are the colors that are mostly seen in restrooms with beach decorations. It can be fun to mix and match the colors and some of the decorations in the room in order to come up with something special and to accent the main focal point of the room. If someone likes seashells, they might start with a large seashell bathmat and matching shower curtain and work their way out from there.
There doesn't always have to be something fishy about a nautical decor bathroom, and it doesn't always mean an old boat wheel or rundown lighthouse. There are many different ways to renovate and decorate a restroom so it looks like it belongs in a beach house. People like the water look in this particular room because it's where the water is and it seems to be calming and more inviting to people who visit it.

My guest bathroom follows your advice pretty well. The walls are a beige and I went with the palm trees on the bath mat and with a picture on the wall. Didn't need the shower curtain, but I did add a seashell plug-in candle warmer with a ocean scent. See it at http://hubpages.com/hub/Scentsy-Warmer. I could have gone with the nautical warmer with the rope around the top, but the bathroom is too small. My bathroom is so beautiful and smells even better.
