Tips For Selecting Cabin Decor

Talk about a cabin and the woods or mountains immediately spring to mind. Cabins are often located in rural places so that they serve as a hideaway. Cabins can be small; simple ones made of logs or large country houses. What they all have in common is that rustic, bucolic look. It is based on this look that cabin decor items should be selected.

Seating, for instance, can incorporate the natural look of wood. Simple wooden sofa frames topped by comfy cushions would be ideal compared to sleek sofas. You can also make creative use of wood by bringing in a couple of chopped stumps to sit on. Put out more seating on the deck. Bamboo or wicker cane seats would fit in with the decor of a rustic cabin.

Wood will most likely be used on the floor if not stone tiles. Natural fiber carpets and rustic area rugs would be a good choice. Sisal mats and woven carpets would also be ideal for wooden floors. There are also thick rugs made of animal hide such as bears that would add a lot of interest in a room.

The windows will need to be dressed. There is also the option of leaving them bare if they have exterior shutters. Sheers will usually suffice for warmer months which can be exchanged for heavier drapes during cooler seasons. Sofa throws can also be used creatively. They can be used to adorn seats and also be functional as they can be used to cover up against the chill.

Fabric for making the curtains, seat cushion covers and table cloths also needs to be decided on. Go for durable, tough fabrics. Hard cotton, khaki and linen are long lasting and also all natural. An era and style option that goes well with the agenda of natural beauty is the Victorian era of dainty touches. Incorporate it by bringing in bed sheets and other bed linens with dainty lace or ribbons sewn on it. Crotchet was also another pretty mark of Victorian style and it can be featured on bed covers and table cloths. Needle craft pieces on the wall are another fitting addition.

Consider patterns while looking at fabrics also. Draw inspiration for this from nature as well. Flower based patterns, checks, dots and even solid colors would suit a cottage well. Prints drawn from nature such as tiger and leopard prints, zebra stripes would also be ideal. Leather can be used in a most interesting manner. Sofas upholstered with leather or cushion covers made of buttery soft suede would work very well in a cabin. Liven up things in the bedroom decor by putting in a leather headboard and using it as trimming on other items.

Another way to merge function and style in a cottage is to make use of earthenware. Use large colorful pots to bring plants and flowers in all the rooms. Choose earthen plates, cups and other utensils as well.

Color is an important factor and one that should guide all the other choices you make. In keeping with the theme of nature, choose colors reflected in it. Go with browns for the earth, green for plants and blue for the sky. You can merge this with warm colors like shades of red and orange which blend in well with nature based colors.
