Keep It Simple With Solid Color Bedding

Patterned sheets and blankets are every where; stores, catalogs and designing shows are constantly showing off their newest trends. But is expensive patterned bedding really worth it, the answer is definitely no. To get the most effect and use for the price try using a well made solid color bedding instead.
The problem with patterned sheets and blankets is their inflexibility. Once a decorator has committed to a pattern on the bed it is hard to add other patterns to walls, curtains and throw rugs. In addition to that the bed becomes overwhelming is such a dull room.
Many decorators are afraid that the bed will not stand out if a solid color is used, this is not true. The trick is knowing which one to use. If the walls are a solid hue, place the complimentary hue on the bed. The contrast between the two will draw the eye right to the bed, especially if the darker of the two colors is on the wall. Some classic complimentary combinations are orange with blue, yellow with violet and green with red.
Some decorators are looking for a low key look in the bedroom. These people often like to commit to a one tone scheme by using different hues within the room. For example, they may choose to decorate with a calming, neutral green. The bedding set may be a light shade of mint green while the blankets are a darker, earthier green. It is all done in solid colors, but the difference in the hues makes the bed beautiful.
Another way to make a bed interesting without a lot of colors is to play with textures. Laces, satins, cotton and knits all can come together is a striking way. It is extremely interesting and draws the eye right to it. Remember to use the right material in the right place; satin sheets are very cozy, but lacy pillows may be very scratchy. Reserve the lace for the decorative pillows and throws.
Want a wow factor that will impress no matter how many times you change the wall color, try metallics. A metallic is the chameleon of the decorating world; it can pair well with almost any color as well as patterns. Plus metallics give the room an expensive feel when they are done right.
Going with solid bed linens on the bed is an excellent choice when a decorator wants to add patterns to something else within the room. For example a red striped wallpaper on tan with a faint gold trim around the red stripe. A decorator can choose to make the bed red and have it blend into the room or they can choose the less dominant gold that is being used as the accent color and make the bed really stand out. Even though the bed stands out it still fits into the decor because they are using a color from the paper.
Having solid color bedding sets is never boring when done right. Look for texture, shades, finishes and draw inspiration from the other decor. There are no limits to where it can go.
