Support Ocean Conservation

Ocean conservation is the protection of the ocean from the intervention of man. Our ocean is a vulnerable ecosystem that has been subjected to man made pollution. The creatures of the ocean have been subjected to man's desire to hunt for the sake of sport. Some believe that it is time to take a stand and start taking steps to protect the ocean environment.

Our ocean is a source of food for many people on the planet. Most conservationists do not oppose fishing in the ocean in order to provide food for the world. But many conservationists oppose sport fishing. So called ocean sportsman will hunt fish and create trophies of their catches.

The coral reefs are delicate ecosystems that provide food and shelter to many ocean creatures. The coral in almost all the oceans and seas are at risk from pollution and scuba divers. Acid based chemicals from manufacturing plants end up in the seas and oceans and destroy coral reefs. Coral reefs are broken by scuba divers intentionally or unintentionally. If the coral systems die there will be some ocean creatures who will become extinct.

Conservationists try to educate scuba divers on the importance of respecting coral reefs. The scuba divers, who take courses in environmentally safe scuba diving, are encouraged to keep from bumping into coral with their air tanks and not to strike the coral with their swimming fins. The conservationist also tries to keep the fishing industry in check.

The tuna industry is supposed to check its fishing nets before processing the fish in their daily catches. However, because the industry is always trying to increase its profits, many boats do not take the time to check its nets and actually process ocean creatures, such as dolphins, that are caught in the tuna nets. There are not enough resources to watch all the tuna boats in the ocean so many ocean creatures are being destroyed by tuna industry.

Off shore oil drilling poses a large threat to our ocean environment. The world needs oil and oil companies go to all extents to find oil the world needs to keep the economy moving. But one oil leak off shore will cause an environmental disaster. The conservationist wants more controls on off shore oil drilling.

The idea behind ocean conservation is that men have been taking advantage of the oceans and the seas for centuries and it is time to take steps to protect the marine environment. Our ocean is a delicate ecosystem that provides life to the world. If the world does not take steps to conserve the ocean environment the creatures of the world and mankind itself will suffer.
