If you love the feel and idea of the tropics, even if it is just at the movies, beach bedding is a great way to get the feel of the ocean in your home year round. Bedding with a marine or tropical theme can add a special touch to rooms or homes suffering from the winter blahs. The tropics might mean something to one person and something completely different to someone else. Look through some of these suggestions for ideas about what bedding will give your bedroom a little island flavor.

Hightide Shells Bedding

Color is a great way to make your room feel like you're on a Caribbean vacation. Solid colors can be combined with prints and other decorations to add the most effective look. If you want to go a little more extreme, find solid colors in tropical hues of bright orange, brilliant lime green and hot pink to add a touch of the abundant fruits you find in the islands.

Images such as flowers and birds are wonderful choices for the tropical bed sets that are so popular. Hummingbirds and parrots and flamingos are perfect examples of tropical birds. Bright primary colors in the flowers add to the interest in the bedding.

If going with tropical bedding reminds you of a school of fish you saw in the waters when you last went snorkeling on the reefs, you can get the same effect with bright yellows, blues and reds of tropical fish or in fish images on the bedding and accessories. When some people see the vibrant colors of reef fish, they remember instead the tranquil blue of the waters. You can get either effect in the bedding you choose.

Lighthouse are another image that is often related to the tropics. You get the colors of the ocean and the sky. If the lighthouse is framed by warm golden sands, there is a completely different effect. Sometimes a tropical sunset behind the lighthouse is representative of the beauty and tranquility in addition to the wild color options in the sky.

Another way to get the tropics into your home decor is to use bedding that has prints of sailboats. With billowing sails and perhaps a warm sunset in the background, you can mix and match prints and solids for color and images reminiscent of sandy shores. Tranquility in the images and vibrancy in the colors can be brought together with the effect of portraying tropical warmth.

Many bedding sets have images of seashells. Some sets feature embroidered edging that looks like scallop or nautilus shells. Even muted colors finished off with shell decorations can be a wonderful reminder of the tropics.

You can make your selection of tropical bedding go further when you add extra touches in the accessories you select to go with the linens. Lights, curtains and other accents add to the impression of serenity found in warm tropical nights. Since you need bedding anyway, you might as well lift your spirits with fun and unique beach decorating.
