When decorating with nautical bedding you may think you limit yourself regarding color. This style of decorating, however, has a wide array of color choices. Blues, greens, white, reds, browns, the colors possibilities are limitless if you use your imagination. What do you wish to accomplish in the space by your color choice?
Different colors evoke different emotion, therefore when choosing your colors you must decide the atmosphere you wish to create. Blue and green evoke calm and peacefulness. Red on the other hand evokes aggression. If you struggle with insomnia you may want to limit too much red in your color palette. White is a clean, crisp color that creates drama. Yellows create enthusiasm, oranges, confidence and the list goes on.
The theme you choose will help you to decide on your primary color scheme. You may choose a lighthouse theme, or possibly a sailing theme. Maybe you will choose a tropical theme which will open even more possibilities. Once you have decided on a color scheme based on the theme you have chosen you will want to pick your accents. These may be added in a variety of ways. Furniture, curtains and artwork are all accents that will add the extra effect to complete the look.
Once you have chosen your colors, decide how much of your theme you wish to have throughout the space. Keep in mind that the bedroom should be a place that is restful, so you may not want to over saturate the space with to many things. If you are using a lighthouse theme, which is commonly thought of for nautical bedding, you may want to choose to accessorise with other types of nautical artwork. Over utilizing an item in theme will cause clutter, which does not allow for restful nights.
If choosing a tropical bedding theme you widen your opportunity for color choice. Tropical colors may include oranges, pinks, yellows and more. What type of vegetation do you find in the tropics? Picture yourself at your perfect tropical destination and envision what you may see. Take your lead from that picture and see what type of tropical paradise you can create in your space with decoration.
Regardless of what theme you choose, accenting with wood deepens the palette. A sailing theme would typically use a honey colored wood, which evokes a feeling of warmth. The tropics on the other hand tend to use the dark woods which are rich in color. A beach themed decor often times use white washed woods or a driftwood color. Any of these choices will heighten the color experience.
In today's culture the bedroom may also be used as an office, reading area, or entertainment area. Take these other room functions into consideration when choosing your colors and theme. If you have a reading area in the same space, you may want to choose to use less theme and more color in this area. An office area may already have its own clutter, so using fewer accessories in this area might be important. Regardless of the other functions of the room the ultimate function should be rest and relaxation, because of this choose colors that calm you.
With nautical decor, the possibilities are endless. If you have fear when it comes to decorating with a theme, start out small. Choosing to use only color and not theme when you start out will allow anyone with anxiety regarding decorating to ease into the commitment. Oftentimes if you choose your furniture style first, it will guide you into a theme choice. Your passions are usually reflected when you begin to decorate. Decide what your passions are in these areas, such as ocean living, traveling the tropics or maybe sailing. When your passion guides you, adventure is sure to be spurred.
