Tropical home decor can mean a lot of varied things depending on which coast is being discussed. Every one from the east coast to the west coast all have their own ideas as to what a correctly decorated house should look like. There are, some simple suggestions that run all through each of the local styles which may help in creating the look preferred for the region the home is in.

Colors

The colors, while varied, all basically stay the same just about all over the country. The principles are white, green, brown, and blue, representing the sky, sand and sea. Other colors are often added to enhance the creative looks that match the particular style and flair of the individual homeowner. These can often be yellows, pinks, and nautical reds.

Walls

When picking out paint colors, keep in mind that lighter colors can make a room seem substantially larger. If you want your walls to coordinate with various decorating genres, consider neutral colors, such as tan or off-white as your primary paint color. You can always change this later.

Furniture

A popular trend in coastal furniture is using nautical motifs and stripes on the upholstery. Mix and match crisp stripes with other patterns, like floral or paisley in coordinating colors to get a wonderful effect. Don't go overboard on the stripes or your room could make people dizzy!

Windows

When incorporating coastal decorating into your home, people often choose leave the windows bare to enhance the look of the room and to to accentuate the view outside. If you really must put a covering on the windows, the material and space should be kept to a minimum so as to not take away from the natural light, like rattan blinds or breezy window sheers.

When trying to create a beach decor look for your home, there is often a fine line between spectacular and gaudy. It may take some trial and error to find the perfect coastal decorating style, but when you do, your home will literally become your own personal paradise.

The Hawaiian style quilt is an excellent example of Hawaiian tropical bedding and one that can be put to good use. In fact, such quilts can be made into the focal point in the bedroom and when chosen properly can inspire visions of sand, sun and plenty of surf. Typically, tropical bedding set items are evocative of the colors as well as images of the culture of Hawaii and so, expect to find items that sport palm trees that are swaying merrily, exotic tropical blossoms, tiki huts and ocean waves. - 23 months ago
